Lyford Cay is located at the western end of New Providence. Lyford Cay was developed in the 1950s by the legendary Canadian industrialist E. P. Taylor. Lyford Cay is an ultra-luxurious private residential enclave located fifteen miles from downtown Nassau and three miles from the Lynden Pindling International Airport.
This 1,000 acre gated community is the address to more than 300 large private estates. Lyford Cay is home to an eclectic mix of people from all over the world, not only those with generational wealth but also the elite of the rich and famous. Although an international community most residents come predominantly from North America, Canada, Europe and The Bahamas.
Lyford Cay is home to the internationally renowned Lyford Cay Club, whose members enjoy the use of a world class Wilson designed golf course, twelve tennis courts, full service marina, first rate dining facilities, spa, beauty salon and a half mile long beach. Membership is very exclusive and if not a member one must be a sponsored guest of a member to enjoy the facilities. Lyford Cay is exceptionally secure due to its 24 hour security patrol and monitoring of all vehicular traffic that must pass through the gate.
Other amenities within the gate are the post office and the private school. Lyford Cay School is independent, non-denominational school and the only one in the Caribbean to offer a full International Baccalaureate program from nursery to twelfth grade.
Immediately outside the gate there is a small shopping centre with a service station, the Lyford Cay Hospital, St Paul the Apostle Church, The Templeton Foundation, Deltec Bank, Royal Bank of Canada, the Lyford Cay Financial Centre an office complex and private office building. The Lyford Cay Hospital is a twelve bed facility with operating theatre, x-ray machines, laboratory and a doctor on call 24 hours a day.
The Lyford Cay Property Owners Association supervises the maintenance of the neighborhood and maintains the common areas and buildings to a very high standard. Private homes are generally kept in excellent condition. The values in the Lyford Cay Subdivision have been moving in an upward trend since its inception in the 1950s. Immense value increases incurred during the mid to late 1990s. The overall stability of the neighborhood and the owners of these properties indicate steady value increases in the future.
